Healthy Community
Every person deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. At United Way of Clallam County, we help people overcome barriers to good health by improving access to nutritious food and quality health education and services, including preventative care, maternal and child health, mental health support, and more.
Physical & Mental Health Care
Working with community partners, we help people access quality health care - including preventative services and mental health support - regardless of their financial challenges or insurance status.
Peninsula Behavioral Health
Peninsula Behavioral Health (PBH) is a nonprofit organization that provides behavioral health, crisis intervention, and co-occurring substance abuse disorder services to adults, youth, and families regardless of their ability to pay for services. Through its PATH program, PBH also provides outreach and case management for individuals with serious mental illness who are experiencing homelessness.
Sequim Free Clinic
The mission of Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic (DVHWC), AKA Sequim Free Clinic, is to provide access to free, quality health care to those who are medically underserved and to provide education to promote wellness. Sequim Free Clinic is a nonprofit organization that provides both basic urgent care and chronic healthcare services as well as wellness education.
Maternal & Child Health
Despite worldwide progress reducing maternal and newborn deaths, too many mothers and children continue to suffer adverse health effects from preventable or treatable causes due to lack of access to quality, affordable health care. United Way makes quality health care available to underserved mothers and children so they can survive and thrive during children's formative years.
First Step Family Support Center
First Step Family Support Center provides a wide array of supportive services to pregnant and parenting families, from free parenting classes, to group play sessions where tips and information is shared by trained individuals, to diaper and clothing banks, to more in-depth services like:
- Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP): Evidence-informed home visitation case-management model for pregnant and parenting women with substance use disorders.
- Maternity Support Services / Infant Case Management
- Supported Parenting: Home-visiting program to help parents with cognitive limitations raiser their children and help their children develop on target and thrive.
- Nurse-Family Partnership: Free support program where a specially trained nurse will visit the mother throughout the pregnancy until the baby turns 2 to provide support, advice, and information.
Nutrition & Food Security
Too many of our neighbors don't know where their next meal is coming from, and many more are unable to access healthy, nutritious food due to affordability or accessibility. Current economic conditions are contributing to this trend. A local food bank experienced a doubling in the number of monthly visits, and a 30% increase in need from individuals served over a one-year period. We're committed to helping all kids and families thrive by expanding access to healthy food and addressing the systemic challenging that contribute hunger and food insecurity.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula believes each child deserves a chance to overcome obstacles and become the best person they can be. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was established to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Free meals that meet Federal nutrition guidelines are provided to all children 18 years old and under at approved SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income children. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula is a program sponsor.
Forks Community Food Bank
Forks Community Food Bank provides food to meet the basic need of individuals and families who are financially unable to purchase this food themselves, and helps with supplemental food to those who live on very limited incomes.
Healthy Spaces & Physical Activity
Physical activity is essential to good health, but many people lack access or experience barriers to exercise. United Way of Clallam County works closely with community members and partners to create safe, inclusive, and active environments where everyone can achieve good health.

Hike United Hike-a-Thon
Hike United is United Way of Clallam County's annual hike-a-thon. We started this event in the summer of 2020 as a way to encourage community members to get outside and enjoy physical activity during a time of widespread uncertainty. We created a dedicated Facebook group to allow hikers to connect and share photos and details about their hikes in a virtual way. As the years have passed, we've continued to incorporate new elements that make this event even more engaging and mission-focused.
Olympic Peninsula YMCA
The Y has a focus on developing confident, caring children who are ready to learn, and supporting people of all ages on their health journeys. Their mission is to strengthen communities through programs and services that build healthy spirit, mind, and body. Olympic Peninsula YMCA does not not tolerate prejudice, discrimination, or abuse of any kind, and they strive to foster communities that are inclusive and socially just so that all people can thrive.
